The phased rollout of Gemini to Chrome continues today with a UK launch.
On Mac, Windows, and Chromebook Plus, you can start Gemini in Chrome from the top right corner of any window. This is joined by the keyboard shortcut, Mac menu bar or Windows system tray, while you can also right-click on a page to “Ask Gemini” in the context menu.
Gemini opens as a side panel next to what you’re browsing or as a floating window. Go to Chrome Settings > AI Innovations > Gemini in Chrome to customize, with Settings > Appearance > Side Panel Position, allowing you to choose left or right.
Gemini in Chrome can be used to:
- “…summarize long content or compare information across multiple tabs.”
- “…integrated with popular Google apps, meaning you can schedule meetings with Calendar, check location details with Maps, compose emails with Gmail, and ask questions about YouTube videos, all without leaving the page you’re on.”
- “…uses the capabilities of Nano Banana 2 to transform images on the web with a simple text message.”
After the US launch, Gemini on Chrome came to Canada, India and New Zealand in March, with Asia Pacific next a month later. The last extension was in June for Latin America, Africa and the Middle East.
Gemini will arrive first to desktop Chrome users in the UK, with Chrome support for iOS coming next month.
