It’s been a long time since we last heard from Reincarnation Beastthe upcoming action RPG from Game Freak of Pokémon fame, but it’s back in the media spotlight with a new trailer.
Unlike the January Xbox Game Showcase Trailerwhich was an overview of the game’s systems, settings, and characters, this trailer covers Beast of Reincarnation’s combat system, which combines real-time swordplay with command menu-based tactics.
In this game, you play as the cursed warrior Emma and her enlightened dog Koo as they strive to save the world while fighting ravenous beasts and crazed machines.
For the most part, combat is hack-and-slash where you slash, dodge, and dodge your way through hordes of enemies and giant bosses. As you deal damage to enemies, you can increase their stun gauge to leave them open to devastating finishers and generate a resource for you called FP.
Once you’ve gathered enough FP, you can slow down time and command Koo to unleash special Bloom Art attacks that will weaken enemies with status effects that leave them wide open to deadly blows.
This combination of real-time combat and command menu with Koo will be essential in defeating the game’s bosses, which are gigantic monstrosities that will undoubtedly kill you in no time if you don’t correctly time your sword parries or Koo’s FP abilities.
However, if you can master the combat system, bosses will quickly fall before you, granting you new Bloom Arts for Koo and skill points to spend on a skill tree that will allow you to unlock new abilities for Emma in battle.
Windows Central’s opinion
When I first saw this game, I was surprised and pleasantly surprised that Game Freak was able to create a game that was such a radical departure from their usual Pokémon titles.
With every new trailer that comes out, my interest in Beast of Reincarnation grows more and more, to the point that I just want to get my hands on it to see how it feels in hand because the combat looks really fun, especially the parts where we turn into a half-plant, half-human samurai during some attacks.
Hopefully this game will encourage Game Freak to branch out into more unique IP if it’s successful, because when not under Nintendo’s control, this studio’s creativity can really live up to its name of creating “strange” games, and I’m all for it.
Beast of Reincarnation will be released on August 4, 2026 for Xbox Series|S, PlayStation 5and personal computer through Windows and Steam. It will also be available in Xbox Game Pass (Day one), PC Game Passand Xbox cloud gamingwith Play Xbox anywhere support.
