The best CarPlay updates to try in the iOS 27 public beta

He iOS 27 public beta It’s available now and includes several CarPlay changes worth checking out. This is what you should try after updating.

CarPlay features to try in iOS 27

Siri AI

Siri AI is the flagship feature of iOS 27 and extends to CarPlay. In fact, I’ve found it especially useful through CarPlay. Siri AI can answer questions about your personal context, knowledge of the world, and much more in iOS 27.

For example, you can ask Siri to search for a specific address or location in your email or text messages and then start directing you to that location, all while using only your voice.

Robust, hands-free control is important in the car, and iOS 27 finally gives Siri the power it deserves in CarPlay.

Playback changes

CarPlay in iOS 27 offers a persistent “Now Playing” mini player in all audio apps. It appears in the upper right corner of the interface and displays the playback controls and album art.

The Now Playing interface in CarPlay has also been updated to finally include an audio debugger. You can drag the control to easily jump to different parts of a song or podcast without using the steering wheel controls or reaching for your iPhone.

New wallpapers

CarPlay isn’t known for its robust wallpaper collection and Apple doesn’t let you use your own photos for some reason.

In iOS 27, Apple has at least aggregate A collection of new wallpapers that you can choose from. They are similar to the stock ones. iOS 27 Wallpapers available on iPhone.

Stability improvements

iOS 27 focuses a lot on platform performance and reliability improvements, and that goes for CarPlay too. Apple says iOS 27 addresses two key things in CarPlay:

  • Improved navigation direction and GPS accuracy in CarPlay
  • Improved CarPlay wireless reliability

So if you’ve ever had issues with those two things in CarPlay, iOS 27 may make the experience a lot better.

Coming soon (sort of): Video app support

Finally, Apple says developers can now make dedicated video apps for CarPlay on iOS 27. However, the feature requires support from automakers. This means it may take a while before you can use any video apps with CarPlay in your vehicle.

Wrap

While CarPlay Ultra is still the dream of many people, it’s really nice to see Apple making significant improvements to the version of CarPlay that’s already available in millions of cars on the road today.
