I’m on my way home from Samsung’s big Galaxy Unpacked event and I’ve moved on to the new Galaxy Z Fold 8. So ask me anything!
He Galaxy Z Fold 8 It is Samsung’s biggest foldable deal in quite some time. The slim form factor of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 was important, yes, and the Galaxy Z TriFold was exciting, but it also wasn’t such a clear change in direction for the company.
And it leaves a great impression.
I walked into my first hands-on with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 earlier this week full of optimism and excitement. I was ready to see this new design in person and was immediately overcome with a feeling of complete bewilderment. While I expected to immediately fall in love with this new form factor, I left my first few hours conflicted. It wasn’t as good for video as I initially expected, and this new screen seems to have a totally different set of priorities compared to the Galaxy Z Fold that I’ve loved over the past few generations.
At this point, I’ve completely moved on to a Galaxy Z Fold 8 review unit and I’m still in this state of mixed feelings. The short, beefy outer screen feels totally new in my hand, and I find myself using this phone more openly than on my Fold 7.
However, first impressions are good. I think there are a lot of usability and comfort tweaks that I’ll have to work out in the next few days, but the hardware is good, the screens are impressive. I can already say that this is a massive Updated on past generations, inside and out, and the cameras actually seem decent, although I already miss my telephoto lens.
So, as I embark on my return journey across the pond (and look forward to the inevitable airport delays that arise this time of year), let’s talk! Hit the comments below if you have any questions about the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 are now open.
