As part of Microsoft Age of empires revival, the The third installment received a Definitive Edition treatment in 2020. Although it is not as popular as Age of Empires 2 (which also received a glorious remake), age of empires 3 has loyal followers among real time strategy (RTS) fans.
I have good news for PC gamers. Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition is currently testing a new “The Baltic Powers” expansion in open beta. The test runs from July 23 to August 6after which the expansion will officially launch on September 10, 2026.
This is the first Age 3 expansion since 2022 Knights of the Mediterraneanwhich added Italian and Maltese civilizations, as well as many new maps, new minor civilizations, new game modes and new achievements.

The Baltic Powers It was actually a previously planned DLC that was cancelled. It’s not clear exactly why it was canceled, but I assume that the game has proven to be resilient enough in terms of player numbers to justify new content. For reference, SteamDB lists the game as having a Maximum players in 24 hours of 5,470. Not bad.

Age of Empires 3: new DE DLC adds two new civilizations
The biggest addition to the game is, without a doubt, the two new civilizations: polish and danes.
In the first case, you will take control of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth focusing on economic benefits and cavalry armies.
For the latter, you are looking to take control of the Kingdom of Denmark-Norway to impose naval control and strong defenses on your enemies.
The DLC comes with new challenge scenarios such as set pieces to test your skills, as well as Regicide and Independence Game modes. Regicide, as most veterans of the Age know, is a race to kill the enemy king. Independence is new to me and involves a lack of support from the local city.
And finally, if you’re feeling exhausted with the current map selection, The Baltic Powers is adding 20 new maps to the pool.
Can I still join the open beta test on Steam?
He open beta testing period for the new expansion Age 3 will extend until August 6. To enjoy the advanced fun, just make sure you have the game downloaded on Steam.
