Opera GX launches on Linux with built-in ad blocker and VPN


Opera GXthe game-oriented browser Operais now available for linux users. This is the first time the browser has launched on the platform, after previously only being available on Windows and macOS. Initial support includes Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, and OpenSUSE-based systems.

Installation can be done using .debutante and .rpm packages. Support for Flatpak is currently being developed, but no release date has been announced.

GX Control in Opera GX for Linux

Browser Features GX Controlwhich allows users to set limits on the amount of RAM and network bandwidth that Opera GX can use. These controls are built into the browser and do not require system-level tools, making it easy to limit resource usage when running other demanding applications.

Opera GX Privacy and Availability Features

Advertisement and tracker Locking is enabled by default. Opera claims that the browser does not collect browsing history, search queries, or typed data. An optional VPN with a zero-logging policy is also included. Opera claims that the VPN has been independently audited, but has not published the details of the audit.

The browser offers sidebar integrations for Contraction and discord, allowing users to access these services without switching between windows. Customization options include themes, sound effects, and visual changes through GX Mods.

Opera GX for Linux is now available, with downloads accessible through Official Opera distribution channels.
