AppleCare One launches in UK as loss and theft cover expands

AppleCare one – a version of AppleCare+ that allows you to protect multiple products with a single monthly payment – is launching in the UK.

Additionally, AppleCare+ with loss and theft protection is also expanding only from the iPhone to the iPad and also the Apple Watch…

Standard AppleCare+ covers accidental damage and product failures outside of warranty, while the more comprehensive AppleCare+ theft and loss option has only been available for iPhones in the UK. Now you can also choose this plan for iPad and Apple Watch.

Additionally, if you want comprehensive coverage for three or more Apple products, you can opt for AppleCare One, which will be cheaper than individual plans.

AppleCare One costs £16.99 a month for three products and additional devices can be added for £4.99 a month each. It will be available starting tomorrow.

If you currently have an AppleCare+ plan for one or more products, you’ll be able to seamlessly transition to AppleCare One, even if you purchased an annual plan. Adding a product to AppleCare One will automatically cancel your existing AppleCare+ plan and Apple will refund the unused portion. Similarly, if you use Apple Trade-in to upgrade any product on your plan, coverage will automatically transfer between devices.

In most cases, you’ll be able to sign up on your device or at apple.com. You may need to check the status of your device, but this can usually also be done from your own home, by performing a diagnosis and taking photographs. This requirement does not apply if you already have AppleCare+ coverage or if you purchased it very recently. Only in exceptional cases will it be necessary to visit an Apple store.

There are some fine prints you should be aware of. First, existing devices must be no more than four years old at the time of enrollment (one year for headphones) and must be registered to your Apple account. For AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss, you get unlimited accidental damage claims, while theft and loss claims have a maximum of two per year. For AppleCare One, you get a total of three claims per year across all devices.

If you need to file a claim, the following excess charges apply per device:

  • iPhone: £109
  • iPad: £99
  • Watch: £89
  • MacBook Neo: $49 for display or case, $149 for anything else
  • All other Macs: $99 for screen or case, $299 for anything else
