The updated flow allows you to take a new photo within the app and jump directly to the Google Photos editing interface, where the AI tools are ready. That eliminates the usual routine of opening the gallery, finding the photo you just took, and then launching the editor.
In the year since then, the app has Transformed from a simple cloud backup tool to an AI-powered photo hub with things like Magic Editor, Reimagine, Auto Frame and Ask Photos. Personally, I like this direction because it eliminates one of those little annoyances that tend to build up over time. If I know I’m going to clean up a photo before sharing it, I’d rather jump right into editing it than jump around the app. That said, Google seems intent on bringing AI to every corner of your photos, whether you ask for it or not. This shortcut is really useful, but I’d rather Google put those same efforts into fixing the main camera and gallery experience instead of assuming every shot needs an AI makeover.
