On Tuesday, OpenAI announced that the company is closing Sorayour AI generated video app. The iPhone app only arrived in September, making its six-month existence short and fun, much like using the app itself. It turns out that Sora isn’t the only thing ChatGPT creators are rejecting this month.
OpenAI does not advance with the erotic mode in ChatGPT
In October, OpenAI head Sam Altman announced plans to bring an erotic mode to ChatGPT. The detail was an add-on to an otherwise unrelated announcement about age verification.
In December, as we implement the age restriction more fully and as part of our principle of “treating adult users as adults”, we will allow even more, such as verified adult erotic content.
Along with the introduction of the Sora app, this was a big departure from ChatGPT as a productivity tool. The announcement led Altman to declare that OpenAI “is not the world’s elected moral police.”
However, Spicy ChatGPT did not arrive in December and on March 6, Alex Heath reported in Sources that Adult Mode would be paused. Instead, OpenAI would prioritize gains in intelligence.
The Financial Times later reported that the pause is “indefinite,” as Cristina Criddle cited “sexual data sets and the removal of illegal content” as challenges for OpenAI.
So, it was quite a march for OpenAI and, some might argue, at least one AI disaster was averted, at least for now.
