Apple often likes to say that they are not a nostalgic company, but they have done everything they can to celebrate their 50th birthday. The company recently opened an exhibit on campus that showcases some of its most iconic products over the years along with photos of memorable moments. There’s even a big screen that plays iconic ads and key moments, like the 1984 commercial and the opening of the Steve Jobs Theater. Thanks to Al Sultan Canyon At X, we can all take a look at the exhibition.
Some of the products on display include the iMac G3, the 128k Macintosh, as well as a variety of flagship models of iPhones, iPods, iPads and Apple Watches. In particular, the iPod case shows the original iPod, iPod mini, iPod nano, iPod shuffle and iPod touch. All of them products that marked turning points for the category. The iPhone case even appears to include every main screen size, showing how it’s gotten bigger over the years.
If you look closely at some of the artwork displayed on the walls, you can see some real gems. There’s the iconic pirate flag, a photo of the Macintosh team, stills from the 1984 ad, Steve’s slide on the intersection of technology and liberal arts, an iPod silhouette, among many others. I think my favorite parts of the exhibit are the impressions of students using Apple products, reminding everyone why this is all important in the first place. Also seen in one of the photos is a still image of Bad Bunny’s performance at the Super Bowl halftime show and what appears to be a recent awards show likely celebrating one of Apple TV’s wins.
In addition to the main exhibition, Apple also showed several generations of iPhone and iMac in the halls of Apple Park. There is sculptures of the illustrated 50th anniversary logo scattered around campus as well. This larger exhibit is located in Section 2 of the main Apple Park building. While it is closed to the public, if you are visiting an employee or are an employee yourself, you should visit them while you are there.
