Next to debut of its new speakersSonos has updated its Android app to finally revive support for the system’s built-in media player and lock screen controls, as well as button-based volume controls.
Media apps of all types almost universally support Android’s media playback controls, including support for notifications/Quick Settings and lock screen controls. You’ll find it basically everywhere, which is why it’s pretty frustrating that the Sonos app has lacked support for this during the last few years after it was stripped.
However, it is finally back.
Sonos has confirmed As of this week, the latest update to the Sonos app for Android has largely revived support for the platform’s media player controls. Users started noticing this for the past week, but apparently it’s now widely available to everyone; you can check for updates in the game store if you’re not already watching it.
The updated implementation shows the media currently playing from the Sonos app, as well as showing which speakers/groups are being used for output. Volume controls I also work just as you would expect from the casting media, even Yeah the app is not open and uses the phone’s physical buttons.
This comes just in time for Sonos’ latest releases in the “Play” portable speaker, as well as the Era 100 SL, which is a more affordable $189 home speaker.
