Gemini overlay and Gemini Live implement a major Android redesign

After redesigns in February and MarchGoogle is rolling out another big revamp for Gemini overlay and Gemini Live. These visual updates arrive in surprisingly quick succession.

Gemini overlay

Last month, the Gemini overlay on Android was redesigned with the full Tools menu. Google has a new design that combines the attachments and Tools menus. Compared to before, the pickup is a little narrower, while the “Ask Gemini” is larger and the microphone changes to an outline style icon.

Tapping the “plus” button slides up a bottom sheet. It starts with a carousel for Photos, Camera, Files, Drive, and Notebooks at the top that uses large, rounded squares.

Next are Create Image, Create Video, Create Music, Canvas, Deep Dive, Guided Learning, and Personal Intelligence (toggle). Google has been testing a combined design on the weband this should also come to the full mobile app (which sees no changes today).

Gemini live

Gemini Live is also getting a big redesign, starting with the overlay accessible from outside the entire app. Instead of a tablet taking up most of the screen, there is now a floating interface. The waveform is in the center and flanked by a shared screen and a keyboard to exit Live. In the upper right corner, you will find the subtitles button. This live overlay will condense into a smaller circle than before when you start browsing on your phone.

This redesign is also present in the full Gemini app when you launch Live. The full-screen interface has been replaced by the overlay, with the normal home screen underneath.

We’re seeing these redesigns with beta version 17.3 of the Google app today. If it is not yet available, force stop from the application information. We have not yet seen this redesign on the stable channel.
