Availability of high-end Mac Studio and Mac mini models continues to run out, amid growing supply constraints and the possibility of an M5 refresh just around the corner.
Several models are now listed as “currently unavailable” on the Apple Store, meaning buyers can’t even place an order. That includes the Mac mini M4 with 32GB of RAM and at least two Mac Studio configurations…
Last week, we inform that The M3 Ultra Mac Studio with 256GB of RAM was backordered until August or September, and the Apple Online Store indicated shipping delays of 4 to 5 months.
In the span of a week, the supply has apparently dried up so much that Apple is no longer accepting orders for that model. Additionally, the M4 Max Mac Studio with 128 GB of RAM is also not available for order. Likewise, the aforementioned Mac mini M4 with 32GB of RAM is also not available for order.
(Update: The Mac mini with M4 Pro and 64GB of RAM is now also listed as “currently unavailable.”)
A status of “Currently Unavailable” typically means that the product is about to be removed from the configurator entirely. This is exactly what happened with the 512GB Mac Studio option, back in March.
While other Mac mini and Mac Studio models can still be purchased, delivery estimates are quite bleak. M3 Ultra Mac Studio models quote shipping times at least five weeks in advance. Depending on the RAM and SSD storage configuration, Mac mini buyers expect between a month and three months to wait.
If you want to be optimistic, this can be seen as a strong indicator that an M5 update for Mac mini and Mac Studio is imminent. However, it’s hard to say if that’s the case, or if the current situation is a result of Apple facing the same RAM and storage shortages that the entire computing industry is currently struggling with.
Hopefully, Apple executives will be able to provide some color on the exceptional circumstances in their next quarterly earnings call, scheduled for April 30.
