In a turn of events, Walmart’s upcoming Google TV 4K streaming device might actually only cost $20, but it makes some cuts.
After the device hit some stores earlier this month, another Reddit user they have in their hands Walmart’s new “Onn 4K Streaming Device,” the retailer’s first Google TV streaming device with 4K output. Initial leaks indicated a price of 30 dollars but it turns out that might not be the case.
Purchasing the device at his local Walmart, this user says it cost $19.88, an impressively low price for what is effectively a replacement for the $50 Chromecast with Google TV (4K).
Beyond the price, this latest post also reveals a few more details about the streaming device, including a deep dive into the codecs and supported output. Walmart’s new device has Dolby Atmos, but there is no Dolby Vision HDR. The 4K upgrade brings HDR support to some apps, like YouTube and Kodi, but it won’t be on the same level as devices like Google TV Streamer.
The device is shown to be running Android TV 14, with an update out of the box.
Walmart has not yet formally announced this device or made it available for sale online. Whenever it is published, it should appear in this link.
