It seems that, after years of complaining about Windows 11’s Start menu (and most of those complaints come from me), Microsoft finally plans to give it the love it deserves. we already know that Microsoft plans to fix those strange Start menu search results you receive from time to time, but it seems that the company is not finished yet. A recent report claims that the Redmond giant will add a ton of customization options to the Start menu so you can truly make it your own.
I really hope it’s true
As reported by Windows Centerciting “sources familiar with the plans,” Microsoft is bringing out its big guns with the Start menu. For starters, sources claim that Microsoft will let you choose between the large and small Start menu layout. Right now, Windows 11 will automatically choose the size it thinks you’ll like best and there’s no way to change it, so this is a welcome tweak.
The changes will also finally allow you to modify the sections within the Start menu. Anyone who uses Windows 11 and doesn’t like some of the Start menu sections will know how difficult it is to remove all the apps from a section, only for Windows 11 to keep them with no option to remove them completely. If this report is to be believed, you will be able to remove sections like the recommended part with just a few clicks.
Finally, the report states that Microsoft wants to make the Start menu “much faster and more responsive.” This includes when the computer is under a lot of stress, meaning you’ll always have quick and easy access to the Start menu even when your PC is working hard.
There is no timetable for the release of this feature and since it is based on a report from internal sources, it is advisable to take it with a grain of salt. But wow, I hope this report is real.
