Samsung is still working on One UI 9 ahead of its planned launch later this summer. With a new leaked version, we get a better look at two features coming to your phone with this update.
As reported by SamMobileSamsung has officially moved its test builds to Android 17, rather than relying on Android 16. The result is a look at a couple of new features running on a Galaxy S26, including a more detailed look at the “Tap to share” gesture that was first leaked last month. Instead of the empty settings page seen in previous versions, this new look at One UI 9 includes more details, including a step-by-step process on how to share documents by bringing devices together.

It all sounds easy enough. By holding your device close to another compatible phone while Gallery, Quick Share, or the sharing panel is open on your phone, you can send selected images, videos, and other files. However, tapping from the home screen only shares your contact profile, making it easy to exchange phone numbers, email addresses, and more. To use it, both phones must be unlocked and the back of each phone must be touched. Samsung’s menu says where the devices should be located depends on the model of both phones. Once you’ve tapped, you’ll just have to press accept on the device receiving this data transfer.
we know Google is working on similar functionalitypresumably to improve compatibility between OEMs and allow file sharing between, for example, a Galaxy S26 and a Pixel 10. Quick Share actually still has this functionality built in tooalthough in my experience it is relatively hidden and does not always work as intended.
In addition to “Tap to Share,” Samsung is developing new Bixby widgets for your home screen, with tap-friendly ways to interact with the company’s AI assistant via keyboard and voice commands. This is another sign of life for embattled competitor Assistant, who received some new updates earlier this year thanks to a new partnership with Perplexity. However, it remains to be seen whether these widgets will be enough for fans to move on from Gemini.

Expect One UI 9 to launch later this year, with an initial launch presumably planned for the company’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8.
