
Another superhero is coming to television, and that is Lee Falk’s The ghost.
By VarietyFalk’s comic strip will get a new introduction courtesy of filmmaker Reginald Hudlin, who will direct and produce the series. Throughout his decades-long career, Hudlin wrote for Black Panther at Marvel Comics and helped relaunch DC’s Milestone imprint. He will work on the show with King Features, the studio behind it. The Cuphead Show!.
“(This series) marks a critical expansion to meet the current cultural zeitgeist of this brand,” said King Features president CJ Kettler. “Reginald possesses a deep reverence for the comics industry and the source material itself, (and) we are confident that this adaptation will meet the high expectations of fans new and old around the world.”
First released in 1936, The ghost It usually centers on Kit Walker, a depowered crime fighter with marksman and sword skills. He is famous for being the first fictional hero to wear a tight-fitting costume and considered a historical springboard for superheroes, inspired by pulp icons such as the Shadow and later influencing later comic book heroes such as Batman and Superman.
As for comics, Phantom has had adventures published by several companies, including Dark Horse and DC. As Variety notes, the character’s popularity has increased lately thanks to digital editions of old comics and the Ghost 2040 webcomic by Alex Segura, Michael Moreci and John Amor. Aside from the 1996 Billy Zane film, the Phantom had a steady life in television and film, and has a few parodies to his name, including The Venture Bros.‘Phantom limb.
