Visually, Gemini Live has remained largely unchanged since its launch, but Google is now testing a redesign that eliminates the full-screen interface on Android.
Instead of a full-screen interface, Gemini Live simply takes over the Gemini app home page. The top bar changes to “Live with Gemini” and adds the transcription button.
At the bottom, the prompt box is replaced by a pill-shaped container featuring the blue waveform. On the left, you can share your camera or screen, while the other side allows you to mute the microphone. Tapping the keyboard exits Gemini Live, which you can also do using the system’s back gesture.

Google previously tested a more minimalist design that only shared the camera and keyboard icon, with a hidden mute gesture that involved double-tapping the waveform. This new approach is more obvious.
This Gemini Live redesign is widely seen by users of Google’s beta app (version 17.14). It is currently limited to the Gemini app and not the overlay, which is unchanged today but will also be redesigned to fit the in-app experience.
Gemini Live removing its full-screen UI is an interesting move given how iconic and consistent it has been. While visually unnecessary, it was very obvious, if not friendly, and featured prominently in the marketing.
