TL;DR
- Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1 is now available for Pixel 6 and later models.
- The release previews the changes coming with the first major Android 17 update in September.
- Testers who have been on Android 17 Beta can opt out and continue stable by not installing QPR1 Beta 1.
For all the good reasons there are to own a Pixel phone, for a certain type of Android user, there’s nothing better than being first in line to try out the latest Android changes. We are still waiting for Android 17 to have its stable version, with Android 17 Beta 4 It just arrived last week, and now Google is already giving us a preview of what’s coming after that, with Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1.
Right now, the main branch of Android 17 is being fine-tuned for public release, so when it comes to something big like adding new features, we should wait for its first big update, which is already gearing up for release sometime in September. And before that landing, it will go through its own testing period, a process that begins with QPR1 Beta 1.

Eligibility is the same as for the Android 17 Beta test, and you can use any Pixel device from the Pixel 6 series up to the latest Pixel 10a to participate. If you want to get started, the easiest way is to simply register your device with Google Beta Enrollment.
On the other hand, if you’ve been testing Android 17 and would prefer to roll back to the stable version when it goes public in a couple of months, now is your chance to cancel QPR1 Beta 1 and be able to roll back to the stable version without needing to wipe your device’s data, so think carefully before proceeding.
So far, Google has shared a short list of fixes present in QPR1 Beta 1. We’ll also be reviewing it for any other changes we might spot, so check back with us in the coming days to see anything we find. This is what Google has:

- The Terminal app triggers an application not responding (ANR) error that causes the app and device to stop responding. (Number 497465940)
- Resolved an issue where uncontrollable hardware audio processing in the voice communication path caused distortion and phase cancellation in VoIP applications. (Number 494843726)
- Direct audio output may not open on devices that use the AIDL audio HAL when playing audio sequences longer than five seconds. (Number 372064012)
