Mozilla has introduced Shake to summarize for Firefox on iOS in the UK. The feature allows users to generate web page summaries using AI by shaking their iPhone or tapping a specific control within the browser.
Support for Android The devices are expected to be available later in 2026. These summaries are tailored to the type of content: recipes show step-by-step instructions, sports pages show scores and statistics, and news articles highlight key points from the text.
On-device versus cloud processing
On iPhone 15 Pro models and later, running iOS 26 or more recently, summaries are created locally on the device using Apple Intelligence, so the page content remains on the phone. Older iPhone models or those with older versions of iOS send the page text to Mozilla servers, where it is processed into a digest before being sent back to the device.
Mozilla has not provided details about what data is stored after cloud processing or how long page text remains on its servers.
Other Firefox mobile features Mozilla has planned
Mozilla has announced upcoming Firefox mobile features coming in the coming months. A AI Dashboard will allow users to manage all generative AI options from one place, including a switch to disable all AI features at once or toggle each one individually.
Preferences will be saved on browser updates. A built-in VPN for Android is also in development, offering up to 50GB monthly browsing protection on compatible platforms. Tab groups will allow users to organize open pages into labeled collections, with automatic grouping suggestions planned to help reduce clutter when many tabs are open. Shake to Summarize is now available for Firefox on iOS in the UK.
Mozilla has not announced a release date for other regions or for Android.
