Spotify has announced an integration with Claude AI that will now allow users to request a playlist or podcast within a conversation thread. Users can now simply ask Claude in a conversation to create a playlist based on their message, and can instantly play music within the thread. Spotify features within Claude are available for free and premium Spotify accounts, but there is an additional feature for paid subscription users.
Spotify Premium users can even ask Claude what “mood” you’re in, and he’ll create a playlist to match. Since Claude will use recommendations based on Spotify’s own algorithm, there’s a good chance the playlist will have songs that fit the mood you’ve described. Spotify’s algorithm tends to pick up each user’s ever-evolving musical tastes quite quickly.
You can also follow the results in the Spotify app, and it’s a nice little addition for those who use Claude extensively. It’s especially useful to create a playlist, as I personally like nothing more than simply listing the songs I want in my playlist, rather than having to manually add them myself in the Spotify app.
There are many different ways to use this Claude and Spotify integration. Beyond music, the integration also offers support for podcasts, so you can tell Claude what type of podcast you want to listen to and the AI will find something for you.
According to the announcement, Claude will also support Spotify Connect. This means that you can see in the conversation with Claude which device Spotify is playing on and you can change and control Spotify playback from the chat thread.
It seems like a smart move on Spotify’s part, as it brings into play an artificial intelligence platform that redirects users to Spotify to listen to music. Music discovery on platforms like Spotify is largely driven by its own push within the app to explore more genres or artists. By bringing users’ conversations with Claude into play, there is now a way for users to use Spotify’s discovery algorithm without even needing to search through the playlists Spotify creates for you.
