It’s not uncommon for game studios to stay silent for several years while working on their future projects, although one developer that has been silent for a particularly long time is Avalanche Studios. It hasn’t released a game since 2019’s ultra-violent shooter. FURY 2and while was developing what appeared to be a heist game called Contrabando para xbox, Microsoft canceled the project last year..
However, following Contraband’s death, we finally learned what Avalanche Studios is cooking up next: an “unannounced AAA project” featuring an open-world structure.

For those unfamiliar, Just Cause is a series of free-to-play action games that parody campy action movies and satirize Cold War-era American interventionism, with protagonist Rico Rodriguez infiltrating foreign dictatorships and dismantling them in the most destructive way possible with the support of the United States government.
The name of the franchise generates controversy. Operation Just Cause to the mind, although it has something of a double meaning; Why blow up everything in sight? Well… Just Cause.
With a colossal arsenal of weapons, vehicles and gadgets, as well as a trifecta of fast movement options in Rico’s grappling hook, wingsuit and parachute, the Just Cause games are, at their core, a sandbox of explosive mayhem. Its diverse, highly detailed environments are nothing more than a canvas, and armed to the teeth, you’re free to paint it with as much carnage as you see fit.
2015 just cause 3 was quite popular in particular, although the 2018 just cause 4 It was viewed negatively by many due to serious performance issues that were never fully resolved. Since then, the franchise has been on hiatus, although it seems like there’s a very real possibility that a new installment could be on the way based on these job postings.
The Just Cause games are pure high-octane fun and are some of my favorite action titles of all time.
