Magic: The Gathering will continue to expand this year, both for fans of its cross setsand all those involved the main game.
At Magic Con on Friday, wizards of the coast announced several new sets, the main course being Fracture of reality. Released in October, the set will conclude the game’s current arc in which Planeswalker Jace has created an alternate universe in order to undo the damage previously caused by the Phyrexians and Eldrazi. The Echoverse presents new versions of popular Magic characters, like Chandra who has ice magic instead of her usual fire.
fracture said creative and narrative leader Meris Mullaley Polygon The new versions of Chandra and other mainstays like Ajani and Garruk are born from Jace’s goal to create “the perfect multiverse, (which) comes with some of its own biases. Chandra’s impulsivity was something she ran into many times. Where did that come from, what in her life molded her to be that way? As Jace is creating her multiverse, she says, ‘What if his father didn’t die? What if he and Chandra were helping? Lead Avishkar?’”
On the crossover front, Wizards returns to Middle Earth with a hobbit established for Magic: The Gathering. Following the the lord of the rings Set from 2023, characters and locations from JRR Tolkien’s prequel will get their own cards, and legacy characters like Gandalf and Bilbo will receive updates. If that wasn’t enough, some cards have illustrations similar to book covers and others are done in the Dwarven language.
Wizards of the Coast will bring the hobbit to Magic: The Gathering on August 14 and Fracture of reality It will hit stores on October 2. You can read about Wizards’ upcoming all-new game. Mood swings here.
