The Workspace team is finally starting to update the Google Tasks widget on Android with Material 3 Expressive.
This setting begins with the “plus” button in the upper right corner placed in a pill-shaped container, such as Gmail and Google Drive. The background of this button is themed and stands out better.
Old versus new
The other change is the dark mode widget background. Google Tasks chooses a suitable dynamic color theme that allows the widget to better fit your home screen. There are no significant changes in the light issue.
This redesign will be implemented via a server-side update with version 2026.04.27.x Google Tasks for Android. It hasn’t been widely rolled out yet and only appears on one of our devices.
Google Tasks has not had any major updates in last monthsalthough it is scheduled for a new icon as we previously reported.
