TL;DR
- Google is preparing to expand its “Receive a Message” voicemail feature beyond Pixel devices to other Android smartphones.
- Code snippets within the Phone by Google app reveal a massive regional expansion targeting dozens of new markets in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
- While currently restricted to specific English-speaking regions, new updates suggest that full transcript support is coming to Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Japan.
He “Take a message” on Pixels is Google’s modern version of voicemail. Receive a Message answers missed calls, displays real-time transcripts, and makes those transcripts easy to read after the fact on the Phone app’s home page. It can also detect spam among messages left by missed or rejected calls from non-contact numbers. It’s a pretty useful feature, but it remains underrated because it’s exclusive to Pixels and restricted to certain regions. This could change soon, as we’ve discovered evidence that Getting a message is gearing up for a massive expansion, potentially bringing the feature to non-Pixel smartphones and a host of new countries around the world.
Take a Message is currently available on all Pixel 6 and above devices in Australia, Canada, Ireland, the UK, and the US. We’ve spotted clues in the Phone by Google app v221.0.909663815 that the feature could expand to non-Google devices and more regions.
To begin with, this “enabledBeeslyV2NonPixelThe code snippet clearly suggests that the “Beesly” feature is being tested on non-Pixel devices:

Here, “Beesly” is the codename for the Receive a Message feature. It’s not immediately clear which devices the feature will expand to. Since the feature already works on the Pixel 6 series, it would be reasonable to assume that it could be expanded to current-generation mid-range phones and previous-generation flagships.
There are other bits of code that indicate which subfeatures are available in which markets. Here are the fragments and new markets the sub-feature could expand into:
- enableBeeslyV2AudioOnlyMarkets: This code snippet indicates the markets where the audio-only version of the Receive a Message feature is available. New markets this could expand to could include:
- Europe: Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Slovakia.
- Americas: Mexico.
- Asia: Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan.
- enableBeeslyV2TranscriptMarkets: This code snippet dictates the markets where the audio and transcription features are available. New markets this could expand to could include Germany, Spain, France, Italy and Japan.
- enableBeeslyV2InMarket: This code snippet specifically controls the feature for India.
We haven’t yet been able to get Get a Message to work on non-Pixel devices or on Pixels outside of supported regions. We’ll keep you posted when we know more.
