Google released Android Canary 2605 today, and this preview build adds a lot more blur to the system UI on Pixel devices.
ZP11.260417.009 with the May 2026 security patch is available for Pixel 10a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 8a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7, Pixel 6a, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6, Pixel Fold and Pixel tablet. As always, “Canary builds are highly experimental and are NOT recommended for general use.”
System blur
Last year, Android 16 QPR1 introduced blurring in notifications and quick settings. As of Android 17 Beta 4, the widget selector is the only element with the most blur in the system.

Android Canary 2605 now adds it to the pill-shaped container of the volume slider. This translucency allows you to see more of your home screen or the app below it.
Opening the full volume panel is another example of this blurred background.
Then there’s the power menu (which also blurs the background) and long-press Pixel Launcher for wallpaper and style, widgets, app list, and home settings.
