Google app starts rolling out quick access to AI mode history

The Google app on Android is implementing convenient and persistent access to AI mode history for a more integrated experience.

In the Home tab (source Discover), Google replaced the Labs beaker with a button for AI mode history, which recently changed from a circle to this striped version. Tap the slides over your recent chats with AI Mode to quickly return. This matches the Gemini app’s hamburger menu and makes AI Mode feel more integrated into the overall search experience.

Old versus new

The AI Mode home page has also been modified so that the history icon appears on the left for consistency. The back button is replaced with a chevron down on the right.

Search Labs has been moved to the account menu as the first item under Settings. This allows you to view and join available experiments, as well as exit previews.

This change has been implemented in the Google app for iOS. since december. On iPhone, you can swipe to open. It is starting to appear for users enrolled in the Google app beta version on Android (version 17.9).
