FDA is reviewing a new high blood pressure notification feature for Apple Watch, report says

Today Digitimes released a new report highlighting two major updates are coming to Apple Watch Ultra 4.
But that same report also has some intriguing mentions of a new high blood pressure feature that has apparently been submitted to the FDA for review.
Apple has added a new high blood pressure notification feature to the Apple Watch, sharpening the device’s appeal for health management… The feature has not yet been made available to the public as it is still under review by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The report does not make it entirely clear how this new feature differs from the existing Hypertension notifications arriving in watchOS 26.
It also doesn’t specify a launch time, although perhaps the mention of the new feature alongside details of the Apple Watch Ultra 4 suggests it will launch with Apple’s upcoming models.
Interestingly, right after mentioning that the new feature is pending FDA approval, Han writes: “The next stage is expected to focus on non-invasive blood glucose monitoring and other features, subject to government approval.”
It seems that after this unreleased high blood pressure feature arrives, Apple’s next stage of development will focus on blood glucose monitoring, something it’s been working on for a long time. But it’s less clear whether this means Apple has made a breakthrough on that front.
9to5Mac’s opinion
The way this report is written makes it difficult to draw any solid conclusions other than two key points. He is stating:
- Apple has a new high blood pressure notification feature for Apple Watch that is different in some ways from the existing feature.
- And this feature is not currently released, but is under review with the FDA.
Other than those points, there are no real details about the new feature or how a future blood glucose project might be related.
