It is well documented at this point that former Halo Studios art director Glenn Israel has made several accusations against the leadership of Halo Studios. Much of that attention came from posts made on Israel’s LinkedIn alleging that cronyism had occurred at the studio, the practice of hiring or promoting someone based on personal relationships rather than qualifications, along with broader allegations of misconduct.
Now, in a follow-up report from Mr. Rebswho we cover frequently and who I recommend consulting in both unknown (formerly Twitter) and YouTubeRebs goes into more detail about the alleged cronyism at Halo Studios.
In the report, Rebs states that current The studio’s art director Halo Studios blocked him on LinkedIn following his initial report, which he says led him to discover more Halo Studios employees allegedly linked to the individual. Rebs goes on to claim that 10 former partners were hired after his arrival at the studio, with eight of them reportedly receiving lead roles.
Aside from Rebs’ reporting, Israel had previously shared his own concerns about Halo Studios and Microsoft HR leadership on LinkedIn. in a postIsrael outlined a timeline around an alleged lead artist hiring process, claiming that a preferred candidate had already entered into salary negotiations before Halo Studios boss Pierre Hintze allegedly intervened and ended discussions, with the role reportedly being given to a friend and former associate of Halo Studios’ current studio art director shortly after.
Following these accusations, Israel declared: “This should matter to you because it is proof that Microsoft cannot ensure a fair and equitable hiring process.“
Israel also called for outside involvement regarding its allegations.stating: “That’s why I’m writing to you: if (1) you’re concerned about Halo’s management and would like to see it corrected, (2) you’re concerned about the well-being of developers in an increasingly unhinged industry, or (3) you want to see a meaningful change in the absurdly hostile relationships between HR and employees, please spread this message to your networks. Request a certified third-party investigation into my complaints against Halo Studios leadership and Microsoft Human Resources. Demand responsibility.“
In response to Rebs’ reportIsrael also stated that “Your report is nothing short of shocking..”
It’s also worth mentioning that, in his report, Rebs claims that several former employees approached him after his report, alleging broader leadership concerns at Halo Studios.
Honestly, it’s a little exhausting covering Halo in a negative way. I love this franchise and want it to be as successful as possible, but if the accusations made here are true, then it’s clear that something needs to change in a major way at Halo Studios.
