The Outsiders celebrates Apple Design Award nomination with big update

Just a few days after being nominated for Apple Design Award 2026 in the Interaction category, The outsiders released a major update with home screen widgets, expanded workout import options, new metrics, additional workout types, and more. Here are the details.

The Outsiders receives its biggest update since its launch

The outsiders Version 1.7 arrived on the App Store today, hot on the heels of a 2026 Apple Design Awards nomination in the Interaction category, a feat for an app released just 8 months ago.

To say the nomination is well deserved is an understatement. Since its launch, the Gentler Stories team has been updating the app to make it even more powerful, more flexible, and more useful for users whose fitness routine goes beyond casual exercise.

Today, The outsiders is receiving its biggest update since launch, with several welcome additions, including many of the features users have been asking for the most.

That includes home screen widgets, “the number one request since launch,” according to Andrej Mihelic, co-founder and product designer at Gentler Stories.

Now, The outsiders Users can quickly check “Training Readiness, Training Load Index, Endurance Fitness, and Health Metrics” right from their home screen, with single or multiple layouts.

Another highly requested addition is the ability to import workouts from beyond the Apple Watch. With today’s update, Garmin workouts can now be automatically imported to The outsiderswhile manual imports are supported for workouts from Zwift, Wahoo, COROS, Karoo, Amazfit, and any other platform that can export .FIT files to Apple Health.

The outsiders now supports 161 exercise types, and the full suite now includes “dog running, kettlebell training, tethered swimming, gravel riding, outdoor handcycling, bouldering, windsurfing, beach volleyball, inline hockey, surfskating, BMX freestyle, BMX racing,” as well as furniture assembly, “probably the most in-demand,” says the Press release.

These new training types arrive along with a new metric: number of sessions, with support for both Progress and Workouts. It also includes four new states, Active Recovery, Resting, Injured, and Sick, for users who need a break.

At the other end of the spectrum, The outsiders Version 1.7 now allows users to switch from “Training Load Ratio” to “Training Form”. Here you will find Gentler Stories about what that means and who it is for:

For those preparing for a race or max effort, you can now switch from Training Load Ratio to Training Form. Training Form shows where fitness and freshness lie, and when the balance is right, you’re ready to perform.

It’s a more focused lens for the part of training that involves pinpointing a specific day on the calendar, rather than holding it over time.

Finally, the update includes a new user interface for body metrics that open as individual cards, a map view for photos taken during a training session, and several new icons to further customize the app.

The Outsiders is available for free in the app storewith monthly, annual and lifetime subscription options to unlock its full feature set.
