What you need to know
- Google announced that it will open the doors of Gemini for Home to service providers, hardware manufacturers and more.
- A highlight is its new integrated Gemini program, which targets partners who create consumer hardware so they can take advantage of Gemini capabilities for their speakers and cameras.
- Google is also integrating its Home Premium subscription with carriers, ISPs, and security companies.
I/O has given us a lot to review this week; However, Google’s smart home sector is not over yet as it announces a major step to Gemini.
Google says in a press release that it has opened Gemini for Home to a “full AI offering.” This sounds technical, but all it means is that Google is “empowering service providers and hardware manufacturers to create proactive, monetizable services for customers and their homes.” TO developer post shared more, announcing the start of the “Google Home Gemini Integrated” program.
Android Central’s opinion
The integrated Gemini program is a big part of today’s announcement from Google. This basically opens its Gemini doors to other companies (think third-party device manufacturers). Now Gemini is not so restricted. These other companies can partner with Google and start bringing the same high-quality AI support to more people through their products. This doesn’t seem bad to me at all.
This is aimed at Google partners who create smart home hardware for consumers. Google says hardware makers won’t have to worry about the investigation; they just need to “focus on delivering an exceptional service experience.” Through the “Gemini Integrated” program, companies can create and launch Gemini-compatible smart cameras, powered by Google’s camera reference design. Additionally, manufacturers can now harness the full force of Gemini’s voice capabilities for smart speakers in 2026.
Similarly, we have what Google is doing with service providers, like AT&T. The company says it is integrating its Google Home Premium subscription plan with carriers, ISPs, and security companies. This incorporates daily household features, such as Brief Home– A daily summary of what’s happening in your home. Also included are “advanced deterrence” methods, allowing users to make it look like they are at home for additional protection.
Businesses will also benefit from better protection for smart cameras. This technology makes cameras smarter, so they only alert you to the important things: deliveries, someone at the door, etc. Google says AT&T is leading the charge, using the Home and Gemini APIs in its Connect Life app and security services.
Gemini arrives for more people and devices
This announcement of a better, smarter home for consumers that businesses can take advantage of includes the availability of Gemini for Home for developers. It is a set of tools that developers can use to start building for their ecosystems and consumers. We already know many of these characteristics. Google highlights Home Brief and ask home as “basic capabilities.”
Smart cameras have been updated for Google Home. These watchful eyes surrounding the house can “see” what is happening. This allows them to “describe” what is happening, so the owner is well informed, rather than giving generic answers like before.
from google upgrade for smarter cameras It arrived earlier this month. An important part of that update was what the company highlighted today: AI. Combined with their software, the cameras could “see” and describe to the owner what was happening to tell the full story. Google also implemented jump buttons to jump between clips and a new option to help move from one view to another. Users should also know that event feeds also received a visual boost.
Enlarged and clearer previews help you focus on the action of a particular clip (event). Additionally, users can filter these events by “person seen” or “glass break.”
