Gemini app for Mac to add ‘Spark’ agent and voice control this summer

At I/O 2026, Google previewed two major features for the Gemini app on macOS coming this summer.

Google presented the native Mac app in Aprilwith a “small team” using Antigravity to help development.

Gemini Spark is your personal 24/7 AI agent who can take action on your behalf to help you “navigate your digital life.” This includes integration with Gmail, Docs, and other Workspace apps, as well as third-party services. It will be available to Google AI Ultra subscribers ($100 per month) in beta next week in the Gemini app on Android, iOS, and the web.

Spark is coming to Gemini for macOS this summer with the ability to perform tasks “that involve your local files and automate workflows on your desktop” like we previously reported. This will join the existing ability to use any of your open windows as context for prompts.

A new voice experience will let you wander, so “you won’t have to worry about all the ‘ums’ or ‘what’s up’ that happen while you’re thinking out loud.” When you hold down the function key on Mac, Gemini will display a new floating pill at the bottom of the screen. Letting go sends the message with a thinking animation showing progress.

Using the context of your screen, Gemini can turn your flowing speech into precise drafts, instantly reformatting text to capture your intent, right where your cursor is.

On stage this Tuesday, Google showed how to select files in Finder and then dictate an email that is automatically inserted into a Gmail compose window.
