A lot has happened in the Big Two comics over the years, and one thread that quietly continues concerns Static. (Do not add “Shock”). Electrically powered hero, fan favorite. has made a comeback in fits and starts throughout the 2020s, usually with the rest of the Milestone universe following him. For this next attempt, DC is trying to be less ambitious and simply place Virgil Hawkins where he could best make an impact.
Apparently, that’s in the pages of Tate Brombal and Sami Basri. new titans. the editor August 2026 Applications reveals that Static will join the team in issue #38, joining the team’s current lineup that includes Nightwing, Terra, Batgirl (Stephanie Brown), and Wonder Girl (Yara Flor). It seems to come at the right time, as the team go to the amazon jungle for their first real outing as a team. Whatever happens, Static will play an important role in the events to come.
Prior to this, Static had recently reappeared in the DC spotlight with a Batman Beyond crossover book, in addition to the Dakota incident a single shot for New History of the DC Universe and a KO a tie that put him alongside some of his future teammates. dakota co-writer Joseph P. Illidge Static said in the “second act” of his return, so there’s clearly an intention here to make sure Virgil sticks around for more than a few months. But ask any Static fan and they’ll tell you we have been here beforeso we will wait and see if this charge actually comes to fruition.
new titans Issue #38 launches on August 19, and Static will receive a short four-page prelude to further prepare it for the July issue. New Titans #37.
