- A tipster’s post suggests that Samsung could give the “regular” Fold 8 the Ultra label and offer the “Galaxy Z Fold 8” name to the rumored Fold 8 Wide.
- Rumors about these two devices have been coming slowly, but a report about the Fold 8 (or Fold 8 Ultra) claims that it could lose important features, such as the privacy screen.
The frequency of rumors about Samsung’s next book-style foldable has slowly increased, but this one, which suggests a rebrand, could take the cake.
Early last weekend, tipster Ice Universe visited the Chinese social media platform Weibo. claiming that Samsung could change the name of its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 slightly (via 9to5Google). There have been rumors for a while that a Fold 8 “Wide” has been included in the mix. The tipster mentions this but also says that Samsung could add an “Ultra” label to its next release.
If this sounds a little far-fetched, you’re not alone. Ice Universe says that Samsung has allegedly renamed the Galaxy Z Fold 8 to “Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.” What’s more, the long-rumored larger version of this phone could take on the usual Galaxy Z Fold moniker. The informant did not expand on these rumors. That may not matter, as we have a large selection of past reports to satisfy our curiosity (at least for now).
The names are getting a bit…
Whatever the name of these devices, rumors for months have said that we could see a regular Fold 8 and a “Wide” (larger aspect ratio) Fold 8. The reports on the latter seemed interesting, but then we got a alleged glimpse of their cameras. Rumors claim that the larger Fold could implement a dual camera setup. We could see a 50MP main sensor and a 50MP ultra-wide lens. This basically positions the Fold 8 wider behind what we would consider the “normal” Fold 8 for photography.
The wider variant would lack a telephoto lens, if we take this rumor seriously. The latest Fold 8 rumors It hasn’t been that amazing.any. It seems like the phone could lose some important features, like those of Samsung. Privacy screen. What’s more, the company could leave out the S Pen again this time, while also leaving its obvious crease in the screen for another day.
It’s hard to miss how incredibly popular the Fold 7 was last year, due to the updates that Samsung offered. Among them were a stronger hinge (estimated to last up to a decade) and its slim profile. It’s that slim profile that’s probably why Samsung probably won’t reintroduce the S Pen this year.
Android Central’s opinion
I’m taking these rumors as they stand now. I’m trying not to overreact or anything like that. It seems a bit strange. I feel like Samsung could have named the Wide Fold 8 something else (I’m not even sure if the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide was the name it was going to use anyway). We are approximately two months away from Samsung’s long-awaited Unpacked summer. All our curiosities will be answered there. So for now, this may be a bit of a brain teaser.
