Disney’s ‘Project Gemini’ spells the death of the Hulu app

Disney apparently has “Gemini Project” behind the scenes, and according to a new report, that’s not to be confused with Google’s AI, but plans to kill the Hulu app.

Insider business information reports that Disney is working on a “multi-phase plan” known internally as “Project Gemini” that will bring Hulu content and features to Disney+, and will “decommission” the Hulu app once it is complete.

The report says work could be completed by the end of 2026.

It’s become reasonably clear that Disney always intended to fully fold Hulu into Disney+, with the content giant have hinted on the Hulu app disappearing into the past, but Disney too said directly to Variety earlier this month that “there are no current plans to shut down the Hulu app.” This Insider business information The report, which cites internal Disney documentation and several employees, disagrees. Disney’s document apparently says directly that “Hulu’s technology stack and app will be decommissioned after all users have transitioned.”
