I’ve made it very clear how much I enjoy the Halo franchise. I pretty much jump at the chance to mention it every chance I get, and because of that, I was always disappointed that I didn’t get the chance to play it properly. Halo: Fireteam Raven.
For those who don’t know, Fireteam Raven is an arcade on-rails shooter set during the events of Halo: Combat Evolved. Players take on the role of a group of ODSTs, starting aboard the Pillar of Autumn, the same ship where Halo: Combat Evolved begins, and then descending to the Halo ring.
The game has been locked in arcade machines for a long time.to my dismay. I always thought it would be cool if Halo Studios brought it to consoles, but since that probably won’t happen anytime soon, it seems some fans have taken matters into their own hands, as the game’s ROM recently appeared online.
While I can’t share it for obvious legal reasons, it’s nice to know that the game is available for those willing to seek it out.
While sharing the ROM is not something I can do, it is also not something I would recommend you do, just for the record. That said, there is actually a fairly active community dedicated to preserving and playing old arcade games, with TeknoParrot being one of the most popular emulators used for that purpose.
However, I think TeknoParrot requires a subscription for some features, and even access to Fireteam Raven, and I’m not entirely sure if I can link to it here due to any legal issues there may be about how that software works.
More than anything, I thought this was cool. It also gives me the opportunity to pleads with Microsoft and Halo Studios to release the game on Xbox and PC with achievements so I can finally buy it and add another 100% completion to my Halo collection, something I seem determined to do with every game in the franchise.
But that’s just me. Have you ever had a chance to play Halo: Fireteam Raven or is this the first time you’re hearing about it? Let me know your thoughts in the comments and be sure to participate in our survey!
