What you need to know
- A report from a Japanese publication claims to have discovered a Bluetooth SIG listing showing the “Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.”
- This probably confirms that the device name exists, but what’s still in question is which phone Samsung will give it to.
- Recent rumors suggest that the Fold 7 successor will sport the name “Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra,” leaving the long-rumored Wide Fold with the standard title “Fold 8.”
Certain leaks seem important ahead of a new product launch, and this could be for Samsung’s upcoming Fold series.
A publication of the Japanese publication. Sumaho Overview points to a recent Bluetooth SIG certification listing for Samsung’s book-style foldable (via SamMobile). What is striking is the device name of this new product: Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. This is a phone name that has been in the news recently, along with Samsung’s long-awaited “Wide” Fold 8. The importance of the Bluetooth SIG database openly showing the “Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra” could indicate that this is the direction Samsung is heading.
The post assumes this means the phone will be available in the Japanese market. Additionally, it reports discovering a few model numbers for the Fold 8 Ultra, each for a different carrier and a SIM-free version.
While this name is fine, it leaves a lot to the imagination. Bluetooth SIG listings usually don’t contain specifications (which we always crave), and this time is no different. Clarity on what this means is simple: the “Ultra” label could be for the Fold we’re already waiting for.
This Unpacked will be interesting
last week, a Alleged Chinese informant that Samsung had changed naming behavior for its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 series. Supposedly, we can start thinking about an “Ultra” Fold 8, but it’s not for the device you’re thinking of. The tipster claims that the Fold 8 Ultra will be the regular Fold 8, the successor to the Fold 7. The basic “Fold 8” will remain for the rumored wide foldable.
Staying on topic, recent rumors about the Fold 8 (or Fold Ultra) claim that the device miss something amazing characteristics. This foldable could forget that Samsung’s privacy screen exists, and at the same time it will use S Penless this year. This last note is a give and take. On the one hand, some consumers would like to see it come back, but on the other, Samsung slimmed down the Fold 7and getting the S Pen back would do the opposite.
Regarding the wider Fold 8, rumors claim could include a dual camera setup. A 50MP main and ultra-wide lens is all users can find in it. The unfortunate thing is that it looks like we won’t have a telephoto lens, which will likely include the Fold 8 Ultra.
Android Central’s opinion
This is an interesting scenario we find ourselves in. For one thing, we “know” that the title “Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra” exists. This list does not indicate whether this is the wide pleat we have heard about or the normal one. I know what the rumors say, but it still feels strange that “Ultra” goes normal. Could it be because of the camera settings? Usually when I listen to Ultra, I think, “oh, this phone has the bigger screen, the better chip, blah blah.” But, if the rumors are anything to go by, that’s not the case, at least for the screen.
