Capcom went on stage at 2026 Summer Games Festival to show the reveal trailer for monster hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a large-scale DLC expansion for the latest entry in the monster hunter series, Wild monster hunter.
Unlike the base game, which took place on land, the Ascendance DLC will take players on an epic journey through the skies as we explore floating islands filled with ancient ruins and ravenous monsters to hunt.
Among the new monsters we’ll be hunting are an original Flying Wyvern-type creature that resembles a flying fish that bombards players, the iconic Kushala Daora Elder Dragon that attacks players with endless tornadoes, and Lao-Shan Lung, a colossal Elder Dragon that hasn’t been seen since 2017’s Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate.
However, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance will give players new tricks to combat these creatures, as the Slinger device that players used to fire Slinger ammo in the base game can now be used to overload weapons and activate new techniques that will tear enemies apart.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance will launch sometime during 2027 for Xbox Series|Yes, PlayStation 5and PC via Steam.
Windows Central’s opinion
Now, Monster Hunter Wilds and I had a rocky relationship, even though I’m a die-hard Monster Hunter fan who’s been in love with the series since Monster Hunter World.
Upon release, I was severely disappointed. due to its mediocre difficulty during the main campaign, its lackluster performance, and its lack of substantial end-game content. Fortunately, post-game updates managed to fix most of these issues while also providing some satisfyingly challenging monsters to hunt, like Omega and Gogmazios.
After watching this trailer, my enthusiasm for Monster Hunter has been reignited because this expansion looks amazing. The new floating islands location is easily the most attractive area in the game, the new original Flying Wyvern looks great, and the new super moves look fun to use.
Plus, it’s amazing to see Lao Shan Lung again after so many years. This thing that debuted in the original 2004 Monster Hunter paved the way for multiplayer-scale raid monsters in the series like Kulva Taroth, Jhen Mohran, and Zorah Magdaros, to name a few, and I’m excited to fight it again without the old-school controls holding it back this time.
Best of all, we’ll definitely get Master Rank quests, which in the past tended to be the most challenging in a Monster Hunter game, meaning the story campaign could provide some difficulty this time around and not be afraid to put the player in danger.
I can’t wait to see what else Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance has in store when it releases sometime in 2027 for Xbox Series|S, PlayStation 5and PC through Steam.
