Smart weather monitoring device provider AcuRite has delayed plans to force users to use a new companion app. The transition from My AcuRite to AcuRite NOW, which AcuRite previously set for May 30, “has raised serious questions and concerns among many longtime users,” AcuRite vice president of product development Jeff Bovee told Ars Technica.
AcuRite, whose devices include weather stations, rain gauges and indoor thermometers, told customers that close my AcuRite at the end of May. Device owners would have to use AcuRite NOW, an app for iOS and Android released in June 2025, to control their devices.
Some long-time users lamented that they were forced to use new software when the current software worked as well, if not better, than the new application. when ars first reported At AcuRite in May, AcuRite NOW lacked some My AcuRite features, including the ability to rename multiple temperature sensors, report temperatures in non-integer numbers, and an online dashboard option. Speaking with Ars this week, AcuRite’s Bovee confirmed the delayed closure of My AcuRite. Before shutting down the app, AcuRite is trying to improve AcuRite NOW’s “account setup, device onboarding, station connectivity, data visibility, app usability, notifications, and overall reliability of the connected experience,” it said.
Bovee noted that “many customers” have pointed out the “shortcomings of AcuRite NOW compared to” My AcuRite.
Bovee previously told Ars that the the transition from My AcuRite to AcuRite NOW was necessary. My AcuRite was “primarily a cloud dashboard for a weather station,” and AcuRite NOW is intended “to be a broader platform of connected devices,” he said last month.
