Apple still has three unannounced iOS 27 features in the works: report

Apple wrapped up its WWDC 2026 keynote this week, outlining all of its major new software features for next year, with Siri AI and improved stability taking center stage. That said, there are some new features that are reportedly still in the works and we should still see them in September, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Simplified Ultra Modular Face

Apple reportedly developed a simpler version of its popular Apple Watch Ultra signature face. It would adopt the large watch of the Modular Ultra, but would lack a second row of complications. This was not revealed at WWDC, but will likely be revealed in September along with new Apple Watch releases.

As someone who used to own an Apple Watch Ultra, I will say that I ended up missing this face a bit once I switched to the Series 10, so it would be nice to have a simplified version.

Additional Siri Extensions

One of the main rumors about iOS 27 was that Siri support other chatbotssuch as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude.

Currently, Apple still supports ChatGPT as a result of its initial partnership with OpenAI starting in 2024 for initial Siri integration. However, it’s not the same as what Apple is going for with the final feature.

In iOS 27, Apple wanted to allow apps to integrate with Siri directly through an Extensions API, rather than having a custom agreement with each company that wanted to integrate with Siri. The main difference here is that it will simply be a direct third-party integration, so it probably won’t have the same privacy guarantee that the original ChatGPT agreement had since it’s not a partnership.

Apple is working to move ChatGPT to this new integration model, although nothing has materialized yet. Of Bloomberg:

Apple has already had conversations with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google about support for this new system, including details about an entitlement they would have to apply for and integrate into their apps, and I have no doubt it will arrive at some point.

Gurman speculates that there are four key reasons why it hasn’t arrived yet:

  • It would not work in conjunction with Apple’s campaign against WMD in the European Union
  • If better models were integrated from day one, Siri AI would have less prominence
  • Apple may want to avoid litigation with OpenAI, which the company has threatened with
  • Doing additional third-party integration alongside the Gemini partnership can lead to unnecessary confusion

However, as September approaches, we’ll likely hear more about how these extensions will work. In theory, any prominent AI company will be able to implement it, and you will be able to take advantage of its features with Siri.

Customizable camera app

Lastly, iOS 27 was supposed to feature a fully customizable camera appwhere users can move their controls to the location they prefer. That didn’t materialize in the initial developer beta, although other features like Siri in the Camera app did.

It will definitely appear in September alongside the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro, just to make that release cycle sound a little more interesting.
