As someone born in the 1990s, Adam Sandler is an important figure in my comedic upbringing. Williams had a special talent whose chaotic energy brought movies to life. One of his films that I hold close to my heart is Mrs. Doubtfire.
Daniel Hillard (Williams) is a struggling voice actor whose life comes to a halt when his wife, Miranda (Sally Field), asks for a divorce. Miranda is granted primary custody of their three children, much to Daniel’s dismay. Desperate to see his children, Daniel poses as Euphegenia Doubtfire, a British nanny who “specializes in the education and entertainment of children.” Mrs. Doubtfire becomes an integral part of the children’s lives and even grows closer to Miranda. This movie inspired so many bits and quotes that I couldn’t name them all. This is a controlling performance from Williams, whose undeniable charm carries this treasured comedy.
