Apple fixes potentially serious security flaw in Beats Studio Buds
Early today, thrown apple firmware version 8.1.41 (8B41) for the Airpods Pro 3the AirPods Pro 2 (USB-C) and the AirPods Pro (2nd generation).
Additionally, Apple released firmware update 1B211 for Beats Studio Buds, with an important security fix.
According to a supporting document The company released Beats firmware update 1B211 post-launch that fixes an issue where “an attacker within Bluetooth range can listen in through the microphone of a device that is not yet paired and actively seeking pairing requests.”
The company says that this vulnerability (CVE-2025-20701) is related to “open source code” and adds that “Apple Software is among the affected projects.”
Interestingly, Apple also recently published firmware release notes 8.1.41 (8B41), which was deployed to all three airpods models early today. However, unlike the Beats Studio Buds update, those notes only mention “bug fixes and other improvements,” without including security content.
If you own a pair of Beats Studio Buds, there’s no way to instantly boot or push the firmware update manually. Instead, here are Apple’s official instructions for updating your Beats headphones paired with an Apple device:
Before you begin, make sure your device has the latest version of iOS, iPadOS or macOS installed and is connected to Wi-Fi.
- On your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, make sure Bluetooth is activated.
- Make sure that you The rhythms are connected to your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
- Fully charge your Beats (or make sure they’re plugged in).
- Do one of the following:
- Beats with a case: Put both earbuds into the case and then close the lid.
- Overcome with a power or system button: Turn off your Beats device.
- Keep your Beats within Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, then wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware to update.
- Reconnect your Beats to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
- Check firmware version.If you still can’t update your firmware, reset your rhythmsthen try updating the firmware again.
