If you were hoping for a new Samsung smartwatch with a clickable, physical rotating bezel this year, you’re out of luck. A new leak suggests that Samsung is scrapping the rumored Galaxy Watch 9 Classic and instead focusing its efforts on a refreshed one. Galaxy Ultra 2 Watch.
The latest rumor from tipster GalaxyTechie on 9to5Google). That’s a setback to early regulatory talks and FCC filings that had fans hoping for a big dual release this year.
‼️Watch 9 and Ultra 2 come with new strap designs, colors, faces and features as part of One UI 9 Watch. The ultra variant is a little squarer with similar numbering to the classic (1-12), thinner bezels, better side button area and the color of the quick buttons is reduced to an orange outline.June 19, 2026
Additionally, the rumor claims that the Watch Ultra 2 will combine rugged durability with a much more “square” chassis than its predecessor.
Still no return of the rotating bezel
The display is also said to have thinner bezels and the outer ring will reportedly have the numbers 1 to 12 stamped on the surface. But don’t get your hopes up for a mechanical dial just yet: the leak hasn’t confirmed whether this ring actually rotates.
Samsung also appears to be fixing one of the most divisive design choices of the last generation: the buttons. The middle “quick button” is said to lose its solid, toy-like orange coating. Otherwise, the rumor suggests you could get a wider, flush button with a subtle orange outline accent.
The hardware itself is apparently improving as well. The leaked renders give a good look at what’s inside. A UI 9 watch. Samsung’s existing tracking menus aren’t the most organized, but Samsung Health could get a huge overhaul to help sort out your daily metrics. The leak also reveals a new watch face selector and a dedicated compass interface, designed specifically to work with the new side button.
Android Central’s opinion
Samsung’s switching between the Classic and Ultra lines is becoming exhausting. The constant switching between the highly functional mechanical bezel and the top-notch internal hardware every two years gives the impression that the company is experimenting with the design.
For those of you who like to customize your tech, the colors look pretty sharp this year. Both the standard Galaxy Watch 9 and Ultra 2 will apparently be available in a clean beige option. You can also choose a black version that comes with a deep blue strap or a silver one that pairs well with a green strap.
We won’t have to wait long to see if these leaks turn out to be true. At the next Galaxy Unpacked event, which could take place at the end of July, Samsung will likely present the entire 2026 mobile ecosystem.
