As reported by the Wall Street JournalOpenAI is creating a “super app” that will include some of its most important applications in one package. If you felt like OpenAI’s 2025 strategy was a bit fragmented given all the initiatives it was testing, it looks like you’re not alone; Company executives are banking on this super app to “streamline resources” as competition begins to intensify around them. As Applications boss Fidji Simo said in an internal memo:
“We realized that we were spreading our efforts across too many applications and stacks, and that we needed to simplify them. That fragmentation has been holding us back and making it harder to achieve the level of quality we want.”
Right now, OpenAI is working to add ChatGPT LLM, its Codex coding platform, and its Atlas web browser to the super app. The company is also working on agent tools that should allow its AI to dive into each tool to perform specific tasks. It also sets the stage for allowing ChatGPT to perform tasks on people’s desktops.
