What you need to know
- A leak appears after digging into Samsung’s One UI 9 testing software, showing an animation of the Galaxy Tab fixing its ugly selfie camera.
- Two animations show an alleged Galaxy Tab with a punch-hole selfie camera and thinner bezels.
- The recent Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra suggests that Samsung might not change much after the S11 Ultra, keeping its 11,600 mAh battery and near 15-inch screen.
There are times when Samsung’s trial software holds potential secrets about what it’s working on. Recently, reports claim that that happened again, but with the Galaxy tablets’ selfie camera.
The people of SamMobile were investigating Samsung’s latest trial software (A user interface 9) and found what looks like a distinctive change to the Galaxy Tab. The publication claims that it discovered two animations for an unmarked Galaxy Tab with a new version of the company’s selfie camera. Tablets are usually held at a great distance and an animation shows a device with a punch-hole camera. In this animation, the bezels are much thinner.
Android Central’s opinion
I like Samsung tablets, but one problem I’ve always had was the Ultra’s unsightly notch. It’s ugly. Remember the notch on Apple’s iPhone? Yes, of course, ugly. A cleaner design like this would look much better. Samsung would also reduce its bezels in the process, offering a much more favorable screen-to-body ratio. I prefer to feel like I’m holding a screen in my hands and not have to deal with a bezel that bothers me.
The camera position does not change. It is still in the center of the screen (when held horizontally). However, the publication noticed another animation that pans your camera to the shorter (left) side. In this version, the punch-hole camera is still pretty clean, like what you’d see on a phone. No notches or unnecessarily thick bezels. The animations offer a glimpse of a potential future where Samsung’s Galaxy Tabs would feel more immersive and cleaner.
There have been times before where animations of Samsung’s One UI have leaked, showing off what rumors claim will be upcoming changes or new devices. At this point skepticism should be encouraged, since nothing is confirmed. After all, these are simple animations.
The next tab
If we talk about tablets, it’s hard not to talk about Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S12. The rumors started talking about the Tab S12 Ultraand not in a favorable way. Samsung is supposedly not looking to release a major battery upgrade for its upcoming Ultra tablet. Instead, what consumers could see is something closer to the Tab S11 Ultra’s 11,600 mAh cell with 45W charging. What’s more, rumors add that the S12 Ultra could also feature a 14.6-inch screen like its predecessor.
Is this bad? It depends. In our review, the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra It was the talk of the town.. Some aspects could have been better. The RAM was a problem (and probably won’t improve this year), as was its keyboard accessory. One of these issues is easier to fix given the current market climate, but it’s still early days. As far as the design is concerned, nothing is known yet.
Could Samsung have this new punch-hole style ready for the Tab S12? Maybe, but also maybe not.
