The latest Pixel Watch update is causing some hiccups, as users are now reporting that their smartphone is experiencing strange behavior in Fitbit step counting and other statistics.
Google started rolling out the March 2026 update for the Pixel Watch a couple of weeks ago, and it’s been causing issues with health tracking stats on Fitbit ever since. From the beginning it was clear that there were some problems with skin temperature and SpO2 readingswhich just disappeared for some after the update, but other stats seem to be affected as well.
Multiple Pixel Watch owners on Reddit have reported about last week more or less that there are issues with step counting on Fitbit, as well as some other stats. The Pixel Watch is seen to be overcounting steps, and in some cases the numbers double in both steps and other statistics, such as mileage.
Another statistic affected appears be calories burned, which is similarly inflated for affected users even with minimal actual activity.
The cause of this is unclear, but it’s a pretty big problem for anyone who uses their Pixel Watch to track activity. While smartwatches should never be used for accurate health data, they are great for identifying trends and helping monitor your progress as you try to increase activity.
Update 03/20: This appears not to be an issue in the latest Pixel Watch update, but rather a server/app-side issue with Fitbit. We’re seeing this behavior on a Pixel Watch 4 in the December 2025 update, and many Pixel Watch owners reflect the same experience in our comments section.
Google has not yet acknowledged the issue, but we hope that subsequent software updates will provide a fix.
