Insert joke here about how Microsoft’s layoffs are reportedly so big that they’re affecting companies that aren’t even part of Microsoft. Oh wait, that could be what’s happening.
According to Bloomberg industry expert Jason Schreier, Assembly, a public relations agency whose largest client is Microsoft, is laying off employees today.
In a post on BlueskySchreier says:
“Xbox’s mass layoffs won’t happen until after the fiscal year ends, but the company is already terminating contracts and cutting suppliers. So Assembly, Xbox’s main PR agency, is laying off people today.”
Assembly appears to be responsible for a fairly wide range of services, including media planning, communications, market research, and more. However, as to the full extent of his relationship with Microsoft, I couldn’t find much publicly available beyond Schreier’s comment above.
However, Xbox is undergoing a significant restructuring, as CEO Asha Sharma says. Try to make the business more profitable. According to Schreier, Microsoft is terminating contracts and cutting suppliers, which appears to have caused the Assembly to lay off employees due to a reduction in business.
It’s hard to know what to say about layoffs, because I’m sure we can all agree that they suck, regardless of the company involved. I really hope those affected can stand up.
I’m also very curious to see what the next 100 days of Xbox seems. Rumors are everywhere right now, and recent reports even suggest Undead Labs, the studio behind State of Decay 3could be affected. If that were true, it would be a disastrous decision, especially considering the time and investment that has supposedly been put into the game and how promising it appears to be.
It’s an exhausting time lately to be a fan of anything; Skyrocketing prices are taking the joy out of what would otherwise be fun pastimes. It’s not to say that we can’t still enjoy things like games, but the outrageous prices certainly put a damper on things.
