Vibe coding and mechanical keyboards are two hopelessly silly tastes that go together wonderfully, as Celsius and peptides. So it’s only natural that OpenAI would release a thing that converts some of the common Codex shortcuts, presumably some of the ones described. here—In illuminated button presses.
The device in post X (which presumably has nothing to do with OpenAI) upcoming Jony Ive-affiliated device) looks a lot like a modified Work Louder macro panel, which in Gizmodo enthusiastically recommended in 2023. figure released a custom Work Louder macro pad later that same year. A macro keyboard is a small series of customizable inputs that sit on your desktop, allowing you to press all your favorite keys and turn knobs on a device that looks and feels better (presumably) than your regular keyboard.
But that’s just the beginning if you believe in this type of device. The way this sort of thing has been explained to me in dimly lit rooms filled with loudly humming CPU fans is that sensory feedback (clicks, beeps, blinking lights, etc.) reduces errors and increases efficiency.
Or, possibly, some people just like their work tasks to be more like playing Simon:
And if you ask me, that’s a legitimate thing to want.
