The March Security Update Mess
A perfect example of this occurred recently with the March 2026 security updates. Apple released patches for macOS 26.4, macOS 15.7.5, and macOS 14.8.5. Almost immediately, IT administrators began I noticed a huge problem with enterprise printing with a company called PaperCut.. Specifically, users who rely on PaperCut Mobility Print are now prompted for authentication on every print job, with no known workarounds. However, users using Mobility Print queues deployed through Print Deploy are not affected by this error at all.
The bug affects all discovery modes, including known host discovery, mDNS, and DNS. macOS simply ignores the credentials stored in the keychain and forces the user to manually enter their username and password every time they want to print a document. For a school or large corporate office, this translates into an absolute avalanche of support tickets for a problem that IT can’t immediately fix.
PaperCut has declared an open support request to Apple to investigate the issue. Fortunately, there is a solution if you are currently inundated with support requests.

While I’m glad there’s a workaround for PaperCut customers, IT departments shouldn’t have to rush to completely redeploy their print queues because of a routine security update. It was working fine. When Apple ships a patch that breaks something fundamental, like secure printing, it disrupts business operations and costs organizations money. If Apple really wants to be the ultimate enterprise vendor, it needs to eliminate bugs like these. Bugs happen, but when they affect enterprise customers, they need to be fixed immediately.
