While the free tier of the Gemini app allows you to be quite productive, subscribing to Google AI Plus or AI Pro unlocks much more.
Use limits
In May, the Gemini app changed to computing-based usage limits. Free users get “standard limits” that you can follow in gemini.google.com/usage.
These limits take into account the complexity of your message, the templates and features you use, and the length of your chat. Your limit is updated every 5 hours until you reach your weekly limit.
With AI Plus ($4.99 per month in the US), you get “2x above standard limits.” AI Pro ($19.99/month) brings it to “4x higher than standard limits.
Another important consideration is the context window:
When you upload files to Gemini Apps, the content needs to be “read” to provide useful information or answers. The context window is like the readability. Determines how much content can be understood together at the same time.
Free accounts are limited to 32,000 index cards or “about 50 pages of text.” AI Plus raises that to 128,000 chipswhile AI Pro offers you 1 million chips or 1,500 pages of text (30,000 lines of code).
This also has an impact on file uploads. Free users can only upload videos up to 5 minutes long, compared to 1 hour with AI Pro. Likewise, audio goes from 10 minutes in the free tier to 3 hours. Code uploading is also restricted to a subscription.
Notebooks allows you to organize projects (travel, exam preparation, etc.) and chats with direct NotebookLM integration. Free users can have 100 notebooks Each supports up to 50 fonts. AI Plus doubles that to 200 notebooks with 100 fonts each, while AI Pro takes you to 500 notebooks and 300 fonts.

Other features
